What is KYBELLA?
KYBELLA is an FDA approved cosmetic injection indicated for improvement in the appearance of submental fullness associated with submental fat in adults. KYBELLA is a synthetic deoxycholic acid, a molecule that the body naturally produces to break down and absorb fat.

How should I prepare for my appointment?
One hour prior to your treatment you should take 1 g of acetaminophen (i.e. Tylenol) or ibuprofen to minimize discomfort.
Is there any post care?
- Ice packs may be used in the treated area during the first 12 hours. Wrap an ice pack in a wet, thin towel. Ice for 15 minutes every hour. Ice 15 seconds on, and 15 seconds off.
- Do not massage the injection site
- Notify our office if any significant, swelling, bleeding, pain, dusky discoloration, difficulty swallowing or smiling, or fever occurs
- Have ibuprofen and Zyrtec (an antihistamine) available at home for discomfort and itching that may result from the procedure
- Do not participate in any strenuous activity for 3 days following treatment
- Sleep with your head elevated on 2-3 pillows.
- You may apply your skin care regimen and sunscreen normally.
Is there any downtime?
After your treatment, you should expect swelling and redness. You may also experience bruising, pain, numbness, and induration. This will normally last less than 5 days, and for some patients may last up to 14 days.
Plan your procedure so that you can have 4 full days before returning to work or important social engagements.
How long does it take to see results?
The results of KYBELLA are not immediate. AT your first treatment visit you will receive a series of injections in the submental area. At the time of injection and for several days following the injections you will have swelling in the submental area. KYBELLA will gradually over the course of the next month following your injection cause the fat cells to diminish in the area treated. If needed another treatment may be performed at one month or later after your initial treatment. A series of treatments may be necessary to achieve optimal results.
How many treatments will I need?
It may take up to 4 treatments
How long will the results last?
Fat cells do not regenerate. Once the fat cells in this area are destroyed and you are satisfied with the result, no further treatment is needed.
